Software Development Intern - Career and Life Design Center

At Oakland University Career and Life Design Center, our internships offer a unique opportunity to actively contribute to our department's daily operations and larger-scale functions. Working under the direct supervision of the Systems and Data Analyst, the Software Development Intern will play a vital role in managing and supporting various software and hardware projects within Career Services.

Key Responsibilities:

Handshake Reports Project: Collaborate with the Systems and Data Analyst to design, develop, maintain, and continuously improve a fully configurable Python script for Handshake reporting. This script will automate the reporting of student Handshake data, enhancing the efficiency of our Career and Life Design Center's operations.

Database Design Project: Lead the development of a comprehensive database system from the Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) stage onward. Design and implement database structures, develop queries, and ensure data integrity. Continuously improve the database system to meet evolving departmental needs and optimize performance.

Hardware and Software Support: Provide technical support for laptops, hardware, and software across Career and Life Design Center's main and co-located offices. Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, perform system upgrades, and ensure equipment functionality. Collaborate with vendors and IT staff as needed to resolve complex technical issues.

Technology Maintenance and Improvement: Assist in maintaining and improving technology infrastructure within Career Services. This includes setting up technology for events such as Career Fairs and Commencement Fairs, conducting regular system updates and maintenance tasks, and implementing enhancements to optimize technology usage and efficiency.

Additional Responsibilities:

In addition to the above key responsibilities, the intern will also be tasked with various departmental duties including data entry, providing support for the Experiential Learning module in Handshake, and assisting with other related tasks as needed to support the overall mission of the Career and Life Design Center

The Details:

  • August through April 2025 internship with the possibility of continuing employment through summer.
  • 15-25 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
  • $15 per hour

Qualifications:

  • You must be enrolled full-time for the Fall semester of 2024.
